Questions

Honest answers.

What families and attorneys most often ask before they start.

Getting started

Who is Umbral for?

+
Two audiences: families on an immigration journey of any kind, and the attorneys who represent them. The product is designed for both to share the same workspace.

Is it only for U.S. immigration?

+
No. Umbral was inspired by the American naturalization journey, but the word 'threshold' belongs to every country. The product works for any family preserving an immigration or citizenship story.

Do I need an attorney to use it?

+
Not at all. Many families use Umbral purely as a private archive. You can always invite an attorney later — or never.

Pricing

How much does it cost?

+
Umbral is free during early access. Anything you save during early access stays accessible — we'll never paywall what's already yours.

Privacy

Who can see my workspace?

+
Only the people you explicitly invite. Each family's workspace is fenced off from every other family's — you choose what to share, and with whom.

Can I export my data?

+
Yes. Your moments, evidence, and timeline can be exported any time. You own your story.

How are children protected?

+
Children's profiles have stronger privacy settings by default — restricted visibility and no outside sharing.

Attorneys

Can I keep notes my client doesn't see?

+
Yes. Your team has a private workspace for case notes and strategy, separate from the family-facing journal.

Does it integrate with my case-management system?

+
Not yet directly — but every workspace has a stable URL you can paste into any case file or matter record.
Still curious

Try it before you commit.

There's no commitment. Sign in and start a workspace — keep one moment and see how it feels.
